Denture Cream

Adhesive Creams Can Lead to Nerve Damage

Denture creams such as Super PoliGrip and other leading brands have been linked to serious nerve damage. People affected experience pain and numbness in the hands and feet. They can experience difficulty walking and even paralysis.

The symptoms include:

Zinc Poisoning and Denture Adhesive Creams

Many popular denture creams contain zinc as an adhesive and odor controller. In small doses, Zinc poses no threat, but too much decreases the body's copper levels. A reduction in copper levels affects the spinal cord, leading to difficulty walking and keeping balanced.

A tube of denture cream, on average, is designed to last three to 10 weeks. But consumers with poorly fitting dentures sometimes use more adhesive denture cream in order to keep them in place. This means that people may be exposed to up to 330 mg of zinc daily. The recommended daily allowance is only 8 mg for women and 11 mg for men, and the largest tolerable zinc intake is 40 mg.

There are no regulations requiring manufacturers to include warnings labels about zinc poisoning, copper depletion or nerve damage. This neglect by denture cream manufacturers has put your safety at risk.

Risks Were Known in Medical Community

No Warning from Manufacturers

It was known within the medical community that too much zinc in the body would cause serious problems when zinc was introduced as an adhesive and odor controller. Manufacturers have not brought this to the attention of denture cream users, which means the makers of Super PoliGrip, PoliGrip and Fixodent now face mounting lawsuits.
