How Safe are Connecticut Drivers?

A recent study shows CT motorists have the lowest number of incidents.

If you are a Connecticut driver, there is news that should make you proud. A study finds Connecticut drivers are the best in the nation.

According to CT Insider, a study released on Dec. 5, 2022, determined Connecticut drivers have the lowest number of driving incidents. Research by the insurance comparison platform QuoteWizard by LendingTree analyzed millions of insurance quotes from 2022, evaluating drivers on accidents, traffic citations, drunk driving charges, and speeding tickets.

Connecticut was ranked No. 50 in citations and DUIs, 49 in speeding tickets, and 45 in accidents.

While safe driving news is certainly good news, motorists should remember that accidents happen daily in Connecticut. Unfortunately, pedestrian fatalities are rising, according to a Fox61 report.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation stated that 74 pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles in 2022. Connecticut has not seen that many pedestrian deaths in one year since the mid-1980s, according to a spokesperson for the CT DOT.

What are the most common types of car accidents in Connecticut?

While the study ranked Connecticut drivers as "best in the nation," it only takes one negligent driver to cause a car accident that injures you or a loved one. In Connecticut, some crashes happen more often than others, including:

  • Rear-end collisions
  • Intersection crashes
  • Head-on collisions
  • Side-impact collisions, or "T-bone" crashes
  • Rollover accidents

These are just a few common accidents that can lead to severe injury or even death. However, drivers can do their part to reduce the risk of a crash:

  • Don't get distracted by cell phones or anything else: Many crashes are traced back to someone texting or using a device while driving. Instead, pull over to a safe spot if you need to use the phone.
  • Don't drink and drive: If you have had alcohol, don't drive. Instead, use a designated driver or plan on calling a rideshare or taxi.
  • Don't drive angry: Road rage can lead to reckless driving, speeding, and other poor decisions. Instead, try to keep a cool head when you're behind the wheel.

How a lawyer can help after a car accident in Connecticut
